BIOVARIANT

A name for the hardest question in genomics: what does this change mean?

Every genome sequenced produces millions of differences from the reference. Almost all of them go unread. BioVariant is a pronounceable, category-accurate name for the companies whose job is to read them — and the matching .com and .ai are held together by one owner.

Six variants on one gene.
Four of them have an answer.

Select a position on the track. This is the shape of the work the name describes — evidence weighed against a five-tier scale, until either a verdict clears or it doesn't.

01 The word

Not a coined name.
A real one.

That dual reading is the asset. It is legible on first sight to anyone in the field, it survives a linguist's scrutiny, and it does not depend on a metaphor that will age.

biovariant n. · bī-ō-ˈver-ē-ənt · 11 characters · 4 syllables
Sense 01 — microbiology, established

A variant strain of a species, distinguished by its biochemical or physiological properties — a spelled-out form of biovar. It carries 81 records in PubMed, from the Mycobacterium fortuitum third biovariant complex in strain typing to a 2025 review describing the two biovariants of avian influenza. Old enough to be real, current enough to still be in use.

Sense 02 — genomics, contemporary

Read as bio + variant, it names the modern unit of analysis directly. "Variant" is the field's neutral, standard term — it displaced "mutation" precisely because it carries no verdict. Assigning that verdict is the whole business.

Test 03 — the phone call

Unambiguous on first hearing. It spells itself out loud — the practical test most invented biotech names fail.

02 The gap it names

Five tiers.
One of them is a shrug.

Clinical genetics classifies every variant on the ACMG/AMP five-point scale. Four of the tiers are answers. The middle one is the industry's open wound — and its largest addressable market.

03 Three brands it could be

The name flexes.
The category doesn't.

Each of these is a coherent company that could be called BioVariant tomorrow, without a word of explanation to the market.

A — Clinical platform Every variant, resolved.

Decision support for genetic testing labs: annotation, ACMG evidence weighting, and reportable classification with an audit trail a molecular pathologist will sign.

Fits: diagnostic labs · health-system genomics · CDS vendors
B — Variant-effect AI Predict the consequence.

Genome-scale models scoring the functional effect of substitutions never observed in a patient — the frontier opened by AlphaMissense, SpliceAI and Evo 2.

Fits: ML-first biotech · foundation-model spinouts · target discovery
C — Consumer genomics Your variants, explained.

Direct-to-consumer whole-genome interpretation that treats the person as the reader — plain-language findings, pharmacogenomics, and honest uncertainty instead of ancestry pie charts.

Fits: DTC sequencing · longevity clinics · patient-facing apps

What's actually
on offer.

Two exact-match domains, one owner, no operating history. Everything below was checked in August 2026 and is offered without warranty.

Domains biovariant.com and biovariant.ai — exact-match, no hyphens or numerals. Offered together; separately by negotiation.
Registered .com since November 2006 — nearly two decades of continuous registration history.
Why the pair The .com anchors the corporate identity; the .ai is where this category has actually moved for model and product surfaces. Owning both closes a gap a competitor would otherwise walk through.
Trademark No U.S. registration for the term surfaced in public database searches as of August 2026. Independent clearance by counsel is recommended and is the buyer's responsibility.
History No prior operating site, no indexed content, no advertising history on either name. A clean slate for a buyer's own launch.
Transfer Escrow.com or the buyer's preferred agent. Both names push to the buyer's registrar on cleared funds; lease-to-own considered.
